Phoenix secretary Marion Crane steals $40 000 from her employer in order to run away with her boyfriend, Sam. Overcome by exhaustion during a heavy rainstorm, she stops for the night at the ramshackle Bates Motel and meets the polite but highly-strung proprietor Norman Bates, a young man with an interest in taxidermy and a difficult relationship with his mother.
Praised as a work of cinematic art by international film critics and film scholars, Psycho, considered one of Hitchcock’s best films, will be screened on the eve of Halloween at The Galileo, Cape Town’s most scary (for one night only) outdoor movie experience.
In traditional Halloween style, ghouls, ghosts, mummies and vampires are encouraged to come out in full force, with prizes being awarded for the scariest outfit. Doors to the venue open at 6pm and the movie starts as soon as it’s dark. Arrive early to reserve your spot on the lawn, hire a comfy backrest and a warm blanket (you’ll need all the comfort you can get) and enjoy the market vibe before the movie starts. Alcoholic and soft drinks as well as a selection of delicious artisanal food will be on sale.
Taking place at Kirstenbosch Gardens, visit www.thegalileo.co.za to book tickets for the special Halloween event and to view the season line-up.
